Thought of the week
|
|
"We often hear that competition spoils the disposition because it is no longer a matter of fostering riders, that ambition and success are set as priorities.
Still, to prepair for a show can be very productive, because the powerful mechanism of ambition brings man to unexpected performances, to dedication and fortitude, to deep questioning and to scrupulous standards." Müseler.

| François Tiart |
François Tiart, on the right
|
François Tiart left us at the age of 88. Very young he developed the love of the horse, a passion that he had always stayed faithful to. One of the great witness of this troubled time that followed World War II, he lived throught the rebirth of the equestrian sports, both in Paris and in Bordeaux. I was lucky enough to be around him at the Centre Hippique Girondin, where he taught for a while, then in Arcachon where he retired, like his friend the commandant Licart. There we would endlessly exchange ideas about the evolution of horse riding in our country and we would compare the paths we were following towards our truth. François Tiart had the privilege to be introduced to outstanding masters, like the colonel Danloux and the colonel Lesage, commandant Licart, general Decarpentry and others who all enriched our equestrian tradition with their example, their teaching and their writings. Accomplished follower of Decarpentry, François Tiart was practising the beautiful and noble equitation, the one to which every serious rider aspire. This would be expressed on the jumpers ring that he would enter and exit in passage, with numerous great rides in between. Nice example of the multi-faceted correct riding. If the horse is in balance, forward and light, he piaffes and he jumps. It is up to the musician to get the best of a finely tuned instrument. Undoubtedly, did general Decarpentry and commandant Licart got the most precious influence on his riding. From Licart he was saying that he was “of a rare energy and was fighting against inertia wherever he would see it.” That the main thing he remembered from his teaching “was his desire to never make a slave from his horses, not to dull them with endless figures in the arena” and that “if he encountered a resistance, he would try to locate it so as to make it vanish”. Hard to disagree. As well would he talk about Decarpentry : “He wanted, no matter of its height and its strecht, that the neck sustain its basis, as the only way to allow the engagment of the hindlegs.” He liked to repeat what he wrote : “ upon the action of the legs, the neck has to be like the finger of a glove within which one blows.” He wanted long horses in the front, thanks to semi-loose reins, and short in the back, proof of the hind legs engagment. French equitation has lost one of its most convinced defender, and one of its most passionate. Allege-Ideal regrets one of those who were following its progress with high interest and, with these words, adress his spouse and his relatives its very moved and sadened sentiments.

Maplewood Warmbloods LLC Says: "Thank you !"
|
|

Greetings - Just a quick note to say thank you. Thank you to the riders and horses for their efforts, putting themselves out there, and being flexible. Thank you to the well over 200 auditors per day for choosing to spend your weekend with Maplewood Warmbloods. Finally, thank you to the clinicians. Doing the right thing is not always the popular way. Klaus, Colonel Carde, and Dr. Gerd are amazing men and horsemen. They delivered a strong message as a team of masters free of attitude and prejudice. They truly understand what the horse needs vs. what their owner wants. "Put the horse's needs first" was the message stated several times this weekend.
MWW has formed a life-long bond with these 3 gentlemen. We will work tirelessly to continue to spread their message with the same class and vigor. We are excited about this series that we've started. We feel that at the end, we will have a comprehensive set of DVD's for the young riders, trainers, and judges to pattern their activities after. We're preserving what we've all been given this weekend so that no longer can someone say they didn't know...

Allege-Ideal Article International Dressage Symposium at Maplewood Warmbloods, New York
This is a short article written by Colonel
Christian Carde in regards to the symposium this October 18&19, 2008. I wanted to share it with you so you could understand the spirit of the International Dressage Symposium Maplewood Warmbloods is hosting. There was also a longer article in the USDF Connection back in April 2008. I hope you have all read it. If you haven't already, please come to this event. It is about reforming the sport of Dressage in competition and preserving the true methods and mindsets that the masters are leaving us. Will you listen??

"*Equitation, just like other activities does evolve, particularly competitive Dressage*
What is specific about this evolution is that we are changing the way in which Dressage is conducted but the rules stay the same. In other words, as with music, the same notes can be played, but in a different manner. This poses problems in judging the tests and what is more these training methods are copied from those who win, which is quite logical. So if the judgement regularly poses different points of view, the methods also will not be unanimous. The recent upsetting cases are proof of this. The new world came to us with this idea: what about giving a point on what is done and what should be done?
Klaus Balkenhol , a dressage rider with an impressive record and US Dressage Team National Trainer together with Gerd Heuschmann, a world famous vet, agreed with your servitor to take part in a symposium. This aims at taking stock on this matter as well as to propose some ideas to ensure the continuation of the discipline and will take place in New York on October 18th. German and French people discuss together about the high school. Here is an all passionate challenge about to start. I warmly thank these people for their involvement. I am proud to be part of it."
